Closet Detox

A new year for a lot of people means a clean fresh start. Out with the old and in with the new!  Well for me I like to do a deep clean around my home especially in my closet. I'm going through all of those impulse buys and the clothing items that no longer fit. If it still has the tags on it and is buried deep in the back of my closet, then chances are I will more than likely not ever wear it. So having said all of that, I think now is a good time as any to PURGE! That’s right. Why wait until the Spring to do your cleaning when you can do it now? Either donate those items to your local thrift store, have a garage sale, sell it on Ebay and Poshmark, whatever route you choose to go, just get rid of it. All too often we hold on to things that we no longer need, I am just as guilty of being a hoarder, so no judgments here. We tend to hold on to things that we have some emotional tie to. I still have my high school prom dress from over 10 years ago tucked away in my closet, my high school letterman jacket, and old track n field spikes, etc. It’s time to get rid of the old and make room for the new. I find that doing a closet detox can actually be therapeutic because you come across items that bring out different emotions in you, some good some bad. That’s why purging is so beneficial because you get to get rid of all of the unnecessary clutter and baggage that you no longer need and can breathe a deep sigh of relief afterward.

I personally organize my closet by color then by item type such as; skirts, trousers, jeans, tops,  jackets, etc. Some people like to do it by season, well since I live in Texas that won’t work for me. (we might experience every season all in one day) gotta love it.

Below is a list of some items that you will need to keep your closet neat and tidy for the rest of the year!
